Order By PhoneAbout our Old Quintana Roo Map. Quintana Roo, is the youngest state of the Mexican Republic and lies in the Yucatan Peninsula. During the War of the Castes starting in the 1840s control of this region was held by the independent Maya nation of Chan Santa Cruz, headquartered around what is now the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The religion of the "Talking Cross" was prominent, governed by Mayan priests who guarded a cross said to speak to the faithful. In the early decades of the 20th century, the Mexican government began to take back this area it was awarded the status of a Free Sovereign State in October 8, 1974 after having filled population and economic requirements. This state was named Quintana Roo after an early patriot of the Mexican Republic, AndrTs Quintana Roo. Map measures 16 3/4" x 24".
