Spad XIII with French Art Model Airplane - Powered by a V8 Hispano Suiza of 150hp, it reach a maximum speed of 192kph (119mph). One of the first was delivered to a 21 year old lieutenant in the Escradrille de Chasse N3 whose name was George Guynemer. Guynemer went on to shoot down 54 enemy aircraft. His group of fellow pilots all flew Spad XIII's. They were known as Les Cigognes, The Storks, and were highly successful in aerial combat. Guynemer became a popular here in France, and to this day his Spad is known by its nickname 'Vieux Charles'.
