Tall Model War Ships - Model Tall Ships of War
Warships played a crucial role in the control of the seas and ultimately control of the world. The first ships used for war were many-oared galleys which required a large number of rowers for propulsion. These ships attacked by ramming and boarding other ships. They were used in great numbers in the Mediterranean naval battles. Over the years, naval warfare their ships evolved. By the 16th century rowing oars were replaced by sails and ships were designed for ocean sailing as well as fighting. Cannons made their way onto the decks so damage could be inflicted on enemy ships without ramming them. This new design did not change until the 18th century.
During the late 17th and 18th Centuries the warship evolved again into two major classifications. The main fighting ships of the fleet were known as ships of the line; these ships were two or three-deckers with heavy broadside armament as well as heavy timbers in their walls to keep out enemy shots. The other main types were the Frigate, a one or two-decked vessel with a smaller caliber gun arrangement and the Corvette. Our faithfully reproduced collection is available in a variety of sizes and styles. |
