Don't Let Your Barometer Direct Your Compass
By Ken Donaldson

A barometer is used to measure atmospheric pressure. This pressure change helps weather forecasters to predict what weather conditions might be forthcoming. A compass, on the other hand, is used to determine direction. Since our North Pole has a natural magnetic pull to it, the needle of a compass will point in that direction. And so at this point you may wonder where it is that I am going with this. Let us continue...

It would be wise of you, in my opinion, to know your "true north" in life. This true north refers to your personal life path. This would include your values, your legacy, your purpose, and your life vision. Your true north is unique and only yours. It will not look like other’s life path, so it may be wise to not compare. Likewise, others may not understand your life path, but it is yours, and only yours, it needs not any explanation.

When you find your true north, and you stay on that path, you will find much happiness and fulfillment. This is the place that you will be in your integrity; which means to be in your wholeness and in alignment with your self. In other words, it is the place where your walk matches your talk. This is also the place of great passion for life itself. Some people call this place and space being "perfect" in a non-perfectionistic way.

I have found, however, that many people allow their barometer to control the direction of their lives. When people feel too much pressure, internal or external, they often allow that pressure to steer their lives. This would include emotions such as fear and anger internally, and perhaps the need to people-please or be an over-achiever externally. In either case, when the pressure begins to rise, this a good time to stick to your compass and your true north.

Ask yourself the following questions:

Do I have a life vision?

Do I know my core values?

Do I know my life purpose?

Do I know the legacy I desire to leave?

If you answered "Yes" to all these questions, then you have discovered your true north. Use your compass to stay on your path of joyful freedom.

If, however, you answered "No" to any of these questions, you may want to take some time to reflect and get clear about your life.

In other words, you may want to gather the information that will lead you to your true north, and therefore, the greatest life you can possibly live.
